So Sleepy!

I've leanred that, like babies and little kids, dogs can sleep just about anywhere in any position and be comfortable. This is Shiloh sleeping in the backyard. It had rained most of the night and off and on all morning. She is sleeping on a bare spot (which she made last summer) near her favorite hole (which she made this winter looking for gophers).

Earth Hour 2008

What are you doing tonight from 8pm-9pm? I am going to particiapte in this year's Earth Hour. By turning off everything electrical in my house. (lights, tv, computer). It started last year in Sydney, Australia. They turned out the lights at their landmarks and many businesses and individuals particiapated. Overall, 1.2 million people in Australia took part in Earth Hour 2007. In that 0ne hour of darkness, their greenhouse gas emmisions went down 10%. What started in one city has now become a global campain. So, what are you doing tonight?

Fruits Of The Spirit.

I got the girls' coat hanger done sooner than I thought I would. The kids cooperated today and let me paint for about an hour. That really helped. After I got the base colors done I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with the rest. I started looking at the stensils that I used for the stool but didn't want swirls, or dots, or starts. But..there were inspirational words! So I went with a Fruits of the Spirit theme. I even found some great fruit stensils at Michael's. (I think that is my new favorite store!)

I tired a couple of different shots to get the sparkle to show. I painted the words a light/bright green and then went over them in clear sparkles. I think the pear turned out the best. It was the one that needed the least touching up (next to the orange) Now I just need to find a spot in the girls' room for it and teach Lorelei to hang her pj's on it everyday. My next project is to do Houston's name. I found some great wooden letters for .99 each. They are about 6 inches high. It's going to be so much fun! After Houston, I 'll do the two girls' names, too.

Mmmmm....Yummy!

The joys of little kids and their pets. Lorelei and Shiloh adore each other. Apparently what's good for one is good for the other. Just be wary whenever Lorelei offers you a bite. You never know who had some first.

I Smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

Here's praying that Houston never discovers extereme sports or dares to be extraordinarily advententurous. The other day I was sitting at the computer when I heard a very audible "Ka-Thunk". Just the sound alone told me that whatever had happened, was really going to hurt. (I've heard a fair amount of Ka-Thunks in my day). Sure enough, about 2 seconds after the Ka-Thunk I hear Houston screaming/crying like he is about to die. He comes over to me and as the most beautiful bruise going on complete with swelling. He finally calms down enough to tell me what happened. He tough a coffee mug and beaned himself in the head with it. Yes, you heard right. It was completely self-inflicted. I asked him why and he told me that he had to practice his tricks for tomorrow night on the show. What that means, I have no idea. The only show I could think was "America's Funniest Home Videos" but we don't watch that. One of the reasons is so that the kids don't get stupid ideas. The funny thing was that after Houston started feeling his head, he was very surpised and told me "There's a hill on my head!"

Spa Day

Shiloh had her annual day of pampering and primping on Friday. After the success of last year (she got to spend more time outside and was more comfortable outside) we decided that shaving her down would be an annual event. Now this year we didn't have to go nearly as short as last year. This past winter we made sure that we brushed her the right way so her undercoat didn't mat up on us. So Friday we took her to PetSmart. There they brushed, shaved, and bathed her. We also paid the extra $15 for the spring Pick Me Up add on. So she got her teeth brushed, a re-moisturizer worked into her skin/coat. I think that was her favorite part. When the dogs are bathed, the groomers give them a little doggie massage. Same when they do the re-moisturizer. So Shiloh was loving her double massage. Another good part of the re-moisturizer is that it is scented and they use the complimenting doggie perfume. A few times a year it is "seasonally scented" rather than the regurlar fruity, fluffy, overpowering smells. So from Friday until about Sunday/Mondayish, Shiloh smelled liked jellybeans! This was taken about 6 weeks after Shiloh got her potty trail trimed/shaved. That's why her butt is bald.

Yes, Shiloh is very skinny in these pictures. She lost around 15 pounds (which is A LOT for a dog) because of intestinal worms. About a week ago we de-wormed her and now we are working on bulking her back up. She loves it because she is now getting an extra meal a day of puppy food. Lots of calories, protien, and carbs to help her put the weight back on. She's doing pretty good. Her ribs and hips aren't nearly as pronouced as they used to be. Another couple weeks witht the puppy chow should do the trick.

New Talent

I was looking at someone's blog the other day (it's linked our my page "Kid's Art")and thought, "Hey! I could do that!" I can't do the custom pieces that she makes (with her cute little animals and flowers) but I figure that just normal stuff wouldn't be that hard. So I went to Micheal's the other day and got a plain wooden footstool and a plain wooded coat rack. The stool is going to go in the corner next to the piano and it will be the "Time Out" stool. (I'm at the end of my rope...I gotta get through to Houston somehow, but's that another story for another day) The coatrack I'll pout in the girls room. I finished the stool last night and I am about half done with the rack. I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the week. Anyway, here are the pictures of the stool. Let me know what you think.

Yummies

We'll see if I have any sort of a green thumb. I just finished putting my four rhubarb plants in the ground. I have them in the front yard circling the tree. Around the corner from the roses I put in a blueberry plant. The directions said to give it something to climb on, so it is planted next to some lattice work. I'm also working on my strawberry plants, and tomorrow I will plant my sweet pepper seeds. Hopefully this fall I will have some yummy things to share and eat. I am hoping that maybe I'll even have some in time to bring to Nebraska at the end of August.

Funny Boy!

Conversation with Houston in the van today:

M: You sure are full of the sillies today.

H: I'm not full of the sillies!

M: If you're not full of the silles than why are you being so crazy today?

H: I'm not silly, I'm strange.

I was at Wal-Mart yesterday getting Houston a new shirt for Easter Sunday. (I found a really nice light green one that will match Lorelei's dress) I also found this t-shirt and just couldn't resist. Houston wasn't sure at first (he wanted the SpongeBob one) but the I told him the Opa would find the humor in this one so it was a done deal.

It's Here!

Spring is here! It's finally here! Actually, it's been here for a little while, but I didn't want to make it "official" until the temperature started staying consistent. It rained for the last two days and today it is sunny and 65 degrees. The perfect day to start the rest of our seedlings. (The green tree in in the front yard and the white tree is in the side yard)

Houston and Lorelei helped with theirs. Houston has cacti and Lorelei has dwarf snapdragons. They put the dirt pellets in the pots, measure the water, and put the lid on the mini-greenhouses.

I started a hanging basket, some mini-tomatoes, and strawberries. I also trimmed back the dead leaves from my spider plants. I am hoping they will revive. I lost about 1/2 the plants in the two big pots. The two little pots didn't do so bad. I am also trying to revive my lavender. (I know I said I would send you some extra seeds, Jennifer, but since mine were sucking I didn't think you would want the headache). I may just have to find a nursery and get some plants already started.

These are Houston and Lorelei's little greenhouses. Once the plants start to poke through the dirt we'll remove the tops. When the sprouts reach about 3-5 inches high we'll transplant them to bigger containers.

This is the moss for my basket. It was a hard brick a little bigger than a deck of cards. This about 1 minute in 5 cups of water.

This last picture is the picture of the box from the kit that I got. If it works right and I do my job right, hopefully this is what it will look like one day.

LIttle Buddy

When we first moved into our house (4 years ago), Brian and I noticed that every time it rained this little frog would hang out on the front walk. The we didn't see him for the longest time, so we figured he either moved on or (more likely) he died. Then about a year ago we saw a frog on the walk again. The nothing for months. Today he's back! Yes, I know that he's not the same frog. But I'm betting that he's a descendant. He sits in the same spot as the first frog.

Good Night!

This year's tax season was very generous to our family. After paying off our credit card debt (yea us!!) we got the new bed that we have been dreaming about for almost 2 years. As a bonus, the kids got new beds, too.

Brian and I got rid of our full size bed. (The mattress was so bad that you could feel each individual spring by just barely touching it and it was sooooo squeeky!) We now have a king size bed with a really awesome Denver mattress. We sleep so good now! We don't wake up off and on during the night and our bodies don't hurt in the morning. Thank you Uncle Sam!

Sitting Pretty

Paisley has the best seat in the house these days. (And Lorelei is extremely jealous!) We got Paisley a "Bumbo" chair last week. So far she will only contently sit in it for a few minutes at a time. Once she falls over she can't get up so she gets pretty frustrated. But she loves it for the first minute or two. Especially when Lorelei sits in front of her to entertain her.

Alternate Usage

I was reading a magazine today and game across a short article about different uses for liquid fabric softener. Here is my favorite use (I made some today and used it already)

In a spray bottle mix 16 oz of water with 1 tsp liquid fabric softener. Use as a fabric refresher (rather than buying the ridiculously over-priced Febreeze)

I used it in our van and it smells so nice now! Sing the van has been sitting in the sun, imagine what sun-dried bed sheets smell like. That what my van smells like!

One of my goals this year is to start studying my Bible more, and learning how to find things in it. (like the plethera of verses that the women from Bible study can just spout of off the tops of their heads). So here is my own tag game to help all of us with this endeavor.

Rule 1: Pick your 3 favorite bible verses (or short passages)

Rule 2: List them, but not where they are found in the Bible.

Rule 3: Tag 5 people

Rule 4: These people have to figure out where your verses are at, and why they think they are your favorites.

Rule 5: No cheating! (This really applies to me) You cannot plug the verse into a search engine. The only reference source you have is your Bible! (and it cannot be an online Bible)
