New Stuff

I really going to start (trying anyway) to update this blog more often. I figure that if I make it a goal to put one thing new on here once a week I'll be doing pretty good. So, here goes. Brian left for Ft. Benning, GA on an MRT (mission recovery team) Wednesday morning to fix one of our broken planes and got back Thursday afternoon. Not a bad trip. He was glad that while he was there there was a nice breeze so the weather didn't feel quite so hot. Houston was happy that yesterday I set up the sprinkler for him to play in. Lorelei didn't like it so we put a couple of inches of water in a rubber-maid tub and she was happy. They were much better kids after they got a chance to cool off. Not nearly so grumpy. Nothing new for me, just taking care of the family and still studying.

Funny Kids

Houston's latest thing is trying to figure out who all the family members are. He constantly is asking me, "What's your sister's name, what's your brother's name, where does your mommy live?" He is still trying to understand that my dad is his Opa. He thinks that both my dad and his Opa live in Germany. The one question of his that just baffles me is that I am mommy but he wants to know who is mom is. Today in the van he goes "who's my mom?" so I tell him "I'm your mom" "no, you mommy...who's my OTHER mom?". The picture of him is him telling me that is strong wearing his "muscle shirt". Oh, my sister-in-law did teach him something cute. He makes muscles with his arms and tells me to look at his "tickets".

Lorelei is just as goofy as ever. She is learning some new sounds so we can start building her vocabulary. She likes to say "Uh-oh" and "Whoa" and "go go go". What's really funny is that she has learned to "Unh-unh" while shaking her head. She's likes to tease her daddy and do that we ask "Do you love daddy?" She is really moving now too. She started walking Memorial Weekend and now is doing it more and more. We're really happy that when she's falls down she gets right back up on her feet instead of crawling to get where she wants. PT has been really good for. Her favorite thing in PT (for the moment) is standing on the trampoline.

Shiloh has started growing her fur back from when we shaved her at the end of March. She is getting so pretty!!! And so big!! She was weighed a month ago at 93 pounds. She should definitely hit the 100 pound mark by the time she is "all grown up". For her breed that would be two years old. Her knee still bothers her every now and then but she doesn't let that get her down. The only time a notice that she acts like an old dog is when she gets up after laying down for a long time. The kids just love her and she can never get enough of them.

Coming up Roses

So Brian and I bought our house about 3 1/2 years ago. It's a 35 year old house so it definitely has its....quirks. With all the cruddy stuff that we have to put up with (the previous owner thought he was a handyman) we did inherit some great rose bushes. The ones along the lattice work are even fuller now than when I took this picture a month ago. We're hoping that a year from now the lattice will be completely covered.

Playing Catch-Up

Jennifer reminded me the other day that I promised to post something new last week. I figured that it's about time I got around to doing that.

So here's the skinny on Lorelei--Last week was our 5 month follow up with the endocrinologist. He is very happy that she has had no more broken bones. (broken bones would be a sign of the osteopenia getting worse). He is pleased with her lab work. All within the normal ranges (vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus levels, along with how her parathyroid is functioning). That means she is getting her nutritional needs met and her body is absorbing everything. At this point there is no explanation as to why her bones aren't mineralizing so for now we just watch her and treat the symptoms. The doc said the best thing for her is weight bearing exercises. So now in PT she wears little 1lb wrist weights on her ankles. Big moment on Sunday.......she started walking!!! With a little push-off from mom she can take up to 5 steps on her own (if she isn't laughing too hard, for some reason walking gives her the giggles). Yea!!!

Houston is enjoying life as much as he can. Bedtime as become a real battle lately. I've decided that as long as he stays in his room (playing with Lorelei or his toys) I consider that win. Eventurally he wears himself out and either flops on his bed or falls asleep under it. He's doing better with breaking himself of the habit of sleeping with me in my bed. (That's started in Germany when he was 14 months old and I am still paying for it) Most nights he stays in his own bed all night. If he does get in bed with me it's rarely before about 6:30am. Since Lorelei gets us up for the day between 7:30 and 8 I feel like it's a big improvement.

Brian and I went to a one day marriage conference hosted my Dr. Gary Chapman. If you have never heard him speak and you get the opportunity you should go for it. It was amazing!! The next day Brian flew up to Indiana for two weeks for Allison Engine School. He had a pretty good time. The Saturday in the middle he and the guy he was up there with went to the race track. (They were in Indianapplois). After he got back things were quiet for about a week before we went to Texas. Brian and his dad share a birthday (May 29) and Brian's dad turned 50 this year so we were there to help him celebrate. Not to much of a celebration since he dad had to work the whole weekend, but what can you do.

There, I think that's everything. (are you happy now Jenn :) )
